AWS Young Builders Challenge is an initiative by AWS, launched in collaboration with the Ministry of Education- Innovation Cell (Govt. of India), Atal Innovation Mission, NITI Aayog, and Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to promote and foster a scientific temper, computational and design thinking, coding skills in young minds. This collaborative effort aims to infuse the basic understanding of disruptive technologies like Artificial Intelligence and cloud computing and their impact on the future of India.

AWS Young Builders Challenge  2021

AWS Young Builders Challenge is an initiative to promote and foster a scientific temper, computational and design thinking, coding skills in young minds. This collaborative effort aims to infuse the basic understanding of disruptive technologies like Artificial Intelligence and cloud computing and their impact on the future of the country. After successful registration, the challenge will have the following three phases -

How to Submit

Submit the creative projects build by your students and get a chance to win exciting prizes. The TOP 10 selected projects nationally will be invited to present their projects in the virtual live showcase ceremony. 

Based on the participation from each school, you make track your rank on the live leader board page. Top 3 schools with maximum participation will also be facilitated in the showcase ceremony virtually.

Please keep the following things in mind before submitting the projects:

Frequently Asked Questions​ ​

A CPOC is a teacher or the principal from the registered school that will facilitate the coordination and implementation of the AWS Young Builders Challenge in there respective school.

All students from Class 6th – Class 12th can participate

No, students cannot register and participate directly.

The last date of registration and final submission is 15th November 2021.

No, there is no participation fee to enter the event.

No, projects have to be created individually by each student.

A CPOC needs to register the school for the event, evangelize the event in the school and encourage students to participate. A CPOC may also create a section/classroom on Code.org and invite all interested students to facilitate student access to Code.org. Collect all student projects and evaluate them to highlight the Top 2. The teacher will then submit all projects in two separate sheets in the submission form here.

A simple evaluation rubric will be shared with the CPOC on email to facilitate evaluation at the school level.

Students need to go through the learn tab on the event microsite, consume content, create projects on Code.org and submit the project link along with a project description upto 200 words to the CPOC of their school.   

The theme for students to build projects is – ‘How Artificial Intelligence will change the future of India’. This overall theme can be categorized under the following – AI in Education, AI in Agriculture, AI in Healthcare, AI in other fields.

The event will be completely online.

The Top  2 projects from each school as submitted by the CPOC, will be evaluated by an external jury to finalize the Top 100. 

No, there is no upper limit to the students that can participate from a single school. However the students must be from Class 6th – Class12th.

The students will learn computer science basics by developing projects on Code.org. As they go through the enablement content, they will also get an exposure to Artificial Intelligence and Cloud computing.

Yes, there are no pre-requisites to participate in the event, except that the student is from Class 6th – Class 12th.

10 projects from the Top 100 at the national level will be selected for the showcase ceremony.

The students need to share links to their projects (App Lab and Spirit Lab), along with a project description of not more than 200 words.

The schools are awarded based on various categories. Kindly refer to the Awards and Recognition section on the event site.  

Yes, every student who submits the projects to their CPOC and the CPOC submits the project on the event site, will get a participation certificate.

All participating CPOCs who successfully submit student projects will get a participation certificate. For further categories of Awards for schools and CPOCs refer to the Awards and Recognition section on the event site.

Yes, the showcase ceremony will be streamed live and you can view the same.

Students participating in the event can only use App Lab or  Sprite Lab to create projects.  

The CPOC will have to first sign up on Code.org through here and click on the blue button “create an account”. Add the sign up email, click on “sign up” button and select the account type as “teacher”. After adding all the details, please click on “Go to my account” and create a section for the students. You can refer to the step by step documentation here on creating a section on Code.org and step by step documentation for adding students to the section here.

A student can join Code.org either by invitation from the teacher to join a section or by registering directly. For more details refer to the article here.

Top 10 projects selected at the national level will qualify for the public voting.

Top 100 projects will be listed on the wall of fame.

The leader board will showcase 5 schools with maximum number of project submission.

Yes, top 3 schools on the leaderboard will win additional prizes. Please refer to the Awards and recognition section on the event site.

Yes the leaderboard would be updated regularly to display schools with maximum number of project submissions.

A cloud enabled virtual Artificial intelligence /Machine learning (AI/ML) lab is a virtual environment where the teachers and students of the school would be able to access AWS AI/ML cloud services and can use the same for research, teaching and learning, project building on artificial intelligence and Machine learning.  50 users from the schools would be able to access the cloud lab. The cloud lab will be available to the school for a period of 1 year or cloud credit of $50 per user, whichever occurs first. Access to AWS cloud services will be subject to the terms of the online AISPL  Customer Agreement accessible https://aws.amazon.com/aispl/agreement/.

AWS will conduct teacher training workshops to drive the adoption, understanding and usage of the cloud lab in the school.
